Advocacy and Public Engagement

Sano Paila has a strong history of advocacy, community engagement and public interaction. The organization was founded during a critical period in 2006, as the first draft of Nepal's Interim Constitution circulated post-peace accord, amidst dissenting voices advocating for the inclusion of ethnic minorities. The first Madhesh movement was just beginning, and the region was experiencing socio-economic and political turmoil. This served as the catalyst for forming an organization – a “simple yet powerful movement” aimed at empowering disenfranchised communities through community development.

Sano Paila’s first public program in 2007 was a successful whole-community collaboration, promoting public dialogue and advocating for the political, social, and economic concerns of diverse groups, including public leaders, government official, and civil society, amidst state curfews, daily protests, and violence in the Madhesh region. This is testament to Sano Paila’s strong history of advocacy, community engagement and public interaction.

With over 18 years of experience, Sano Paila has driven positive change and understanding through advocacy and people-to-people interactions, resulting in demonstrable personal, interpersonal, and social/systemic change. Since its inception, the organization has conducted numerous advocacy programs, roundtables, community gatherings, awareness campaigns, conclaves, conferences, trainings, workshops, focus group discussions (FDGs), and public events across diverse sectors.

Public advocacy and awareness campaigns are integral to Sano Paila’s initiatives, educating communities on various social issues and promoting positive behavioral changes. These campaigns address drug abuse awareness, advocacy against drug cultivation, child rights, health prevention, environmental issues, human trafficking, child marriage, child labor, conflict mitigation, and public dialogue. Sano Paila has organized and hosted numerous interaction programs to build partnership with diverse community sectors, particularly at-risk groups and policymakers, encouraging discussions on critical issues.
